Baby Cause and Effect

Baby Cause and Effect is a contingency baby game that will really develop your baby's problem solving skills. Most babies respond best to this game starting around 3 months. You will need a length of yarn or soft ribbon as well as some small soft toys that can be attached to an overhang (ideally a mobile, baby gym, or baby chair overhang).

Lie your baby on her back and gently tie the yarn or ribbon to her leg or ankle, making certain not to cut off any circulation. Attach the other end to the overhanging toy - there should be enough give so that when your baby moves her leg, the toy moves. Watch your baby experiment with cause and effect! This game takes some concentration, so your baby may only want to play for a short amount of time.

Be absolutely sure you constantly monitor your baby during this activity so the yarn does not get caught in anything that would restrict your baby's movement. Because of this, you should not play the baby game once your baby starts rolling.
