Singing and Dancing

The 9-12 month period is when your baby will really start enjoying dancing and singing. It is good for social and emotion growth as well as motor coordination (not to mention rhythm!) and language development. It helps to have some baby music CDs, but a good singing voice is all your really need.

When dancing with your baby be sure not to jostle too much and that you are on secure flooring. It is safest just to stay stationary and move to the beat. For a more and interactive game, try the well known "If You're Happy and You Know It" song and encourage your baby to clap or stomp along.

If You're Happy and You Know it
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands!
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands!
If you're happy and you know it,
Then your face will really show it.
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands!

You can repeat with the phrases "stomp your feet", "wave your arms", "nod your head" or "slap your knees". Be creative here with things your baby already enjoys doing on her own.

Again, remember to be gentle since it is a very interactive game. You'll be sure to get plenty of smiles and laughs!
